Andrea holds a dual Irish/American citizenship in honor to her Irish grandparents. She lives and writes in historic New Bern, N.C. where she also enjoys sailing when the heat index allows. Avonvale is her debut novel.
In recounting her grandparents journey through life, A. J. Clements was inspired to create a compelling historical fiction novel with a twist of mystery and everlasting love. She spent time writing during her travels on ships, in trains, from excursions in Ireland to destinations in Europe. Her adventurous spirit awakens while beach-combing or sailing the waterways in eastern North Carolina. Inspired by her Irish grandparents, she awakens the story of immigration motivated by love. Her family saga begins in Ireland and flourished in Upstate New York where her grandparents purchased the Avonvale mansion which stands today.
In her youth, A. J. Clements spent holidays trekking through the rolling fields, horseback riding and ice skating over creeks on the Avonvale estate with her family. Her Irish grandmother would share stories about life at Avonvale.
The equestrian life was established early in Andrea's character as she grew up where surrounding communities pride was centralized around horse farms. Into adulthood, she was eventually asked to participate as a jump judge at cross-county events. Building a life together on a horse farm community became a focus in her story telling.
AVONVALE is a compelling historical fiction that follows a young Irish couple who emigrate to America for different reasons than most who followed that path.
Tom and Mary’s story traverses across accepted norms, values and stereotypes as they make their way to an American life for themselves, their family and all who cross their path.
Their engaging journey tahttps://websites.godaddy.com/kes these indelible protagonists through transformative years featuring continuous challenges, successes, heartbreaks, courage and love. The tension of an ongoing mystery, along with three generations of finely crafted multi-layered characters, invite you to keep turning the page!

Horses figure largely in the story and I enjoyed being drawn into the growth of Avonvale as a thriving horse breeding farm. The characters were well shaped and endearing throughout their individual life stories. When I finished reading Avonvale, I was sorry to come to the end!

Tom and Mary journeyed through almost the entire 20th century weaving in and out of landmarks and historic events like a silky ribbon wrapped in the days of old. I felt like I was right there with them. A timeless romance, the author planted my imagination into the scene with her descriptions. The Irish dialogue is charming and playful.
After reading the last sentence of the book, I wanted to read more. Encore! I immediately turned back to the beginning again soaking up all the nuances of the characters and circumstances. The only thing better would be a feature film… any screenwriters out there wanting to hit it big? This is a great story for you to adapt.
An Irish immigrant story that doesn’t include the Potato Famine. Reminds us how grit and determination help define The American Dream - then and now - and how immigrants of all eras struggled with being “the newcomers”. Occasional turns of poetic phrase pair nicely with the lilt of Irish laughter and lore.

I loved diving into this story rich in the cultural life of Northern Ireland. The author captures the personal struggles and victories of an Irish couple as they courageously left their homeland and pursued the vision for a new life and adventure in the allurements of a young and developing America. You will love the moving storyline with the highs and lows of human experiences, sprinkled with a wee bit of candid Irish levity.

It is a beautiful historical novel of fiction. The story is full of descriptive language. Read with one eye and you will be watching a movie in your head. It is a story of love set in an old, slower time of our history yet the scenes are fast-paced. Don't ask Huey and now there is no need to ask Fred. I'm a big fan. Buy this book. You will not be disappointed.
